Biofilter Overview
Innovation for a sustainable future means clean, fresh air. Environmental Technologies is committed to
the development of air quality management solutions. Our proprietary biofiltration technology is used to remove odor, hydrogen
sulfide, ammonia, and volatile organic compounds from emission sources.
Biofiltration is a technology using naturally occurring microorganisms to remove harmful compounds found in emission
sources. Filtering media is placed in the path of an emission source forcing the exhaust stream to pass over a
biofilm created around the media. Pollutants are absorbed by the biofilm where microorganisms begin oxidation. The
chemical equation is shown as: organic pollutant + O2 = CO2 + H20 + heat + biomass.
Biofiltration technology is extensively used in Europe and is gaining acceptance in the United States. The
following is a list of applications and industries where the technology is being implemented:
- Chemical Industry
- Food Products
- Oil and Gas Industry
- Pharmaceutical Industry
- Water and Wastewater Treatment
- Rendering
- Agricultural
- Paint
We invite you to learn more about the Environmental Technologies Advantage to reducing emissions through biofiltration. The natural state of the emission reduction process creates a sustainable means to remove harmful pollutants from our air. It is a “green” method of improving our environment because no chemicals are used in the process and energy requirements to integrate the technology are minimal. Operational costs to manage this technology are nominal and the lifespan is measured in years meaning you have uninterrupted odor management.
